They say “time flies when you’re having fun” and clearly we’ve had loads of fun with our guests and Shareholders this year, because here we are, already in December! It’s been a good one as we’ve seen lockdown restrictions eased and the Resort come to life as it filled up with happy holidaymakers! We’re taking a moment to pause and review the year gone

by and as we do, we are reminded of how blessed we are by our wonderful location, here in the heart of the ever-popular KZN South Coast. Uvongo is a lively holiday town that has so much to offer our guests and Shareholders while staying at Uvongo River Resort! But, first let’s catch you up on our 2021 Resort news.

As always (any excuse to celebrate with our guests ), we’ve celebrated special days and occasions, throughout the year, with a lot of fun and laughter.

Father’s Day

A great dad is someone we can look up to, no matter how tall we grow. To us, great dads are heroes, which is why our theme for Father’s Day 2021 was Super Heroes.
Our Reception was decked out in Super Hero splendour, with Super Hero Punch, Popcorn and sweet treats to welcome our guests on arrival. All of the dads checking-in received a little gift with a “Super Hero Chocolate” and a “Super Hero Drink”.
And, because there are no dads without the kids, all of the children received a Father’s Day colouring-in book to enjoy!

Heritage Day

Heritage Day – also “National Braai Day” – is always a favourite. Our Reception was festooned with all manner of South African regalia, from traditional drums to our bright, beautiful flag.
Guests were welcomed with platters of South African treats and each party checking-in received a gift of “Good Morning” biscuits to enjoy with their coffee.

We were pleased to welcome two new Team Members this year and would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome them both and to wish them a happy and rewarding path with us.

Zoliswa Sikobi started her journey at the Resort as a casual in May this year, but joined the Team as a permanent employee in August. Zoliswa is our new Laundry Attendant and takes great pride in ensuring our guests and Shareholders are provided with lovely fresh, clean linen during their stay.

Bulela Somtyele is our new Administrator and joined the Uvongo family on 6 September 2021. Bulela comes with a hospitality mind-set and our guests are thoroughly enjoying their dealings with her. She has also fitted in really well in the Team and is already making a positive contribution to our beloved Uvongo River Resort.

In our never-ending quest aimed at “Creating the Environment for Everlasting Holiday Memories”, the Uvongo Team have been identifying and targeting different corners of the Resort to continue to provide you with a holiday location fit for the best.

The following additions, replacements and improvements have been made to all of the units, during the course of the year:

Broom and Mop Holders, to keep them neat and tidy and out of sight

Grab Handles in the showers

Cabin Hooks at the entrance doors

Stainless Steel Dishcloth Hooks

Spare Toilet Roll Holders

Weather Strips on entrance doors

Basin Plugs have been replaced with Pop-Ups

Main entrance door locks have been replaced

We have systematically repainted all the units, inside and out, including:
Walls | Ceilings | Doors and Frames | Balustrades

All 146 air-conditioners have been replaced

All the high-back chairs are being re-upholstered

Each unit has been fitted with a Wall Mount Sanitiser Unit, with signage

An Emergency Button has been installed in each unit and is linked to emergency response

Did you know?

Uvongo River Resort is situated close to the mouth of the Vungu River, which has a stunning 23m waterfall that cascades down into the lagoon below. This is the waterfall that can be seen from Uvongo Beach. If you take a wander out of the Resort gates, towards the River, there is a pathway that will lead you right to the waterfall!

South Coast Whale-Watching

While the SA Whale Route is most famous for encounters with southern right whales, humpback whales, and several coastal dolphin species; at least 37 species of whales and dolphins can be found in the waters off South Africa. Lucky for us, the South Coast is ideal for whale-watching and 2021 was a bumper year with fantastic sightings right here, from Uvongo Beach! In fact, during a two-week stay with us, one ecstatic guest came rushing into Reception bubbling over with excitement about the incredible sightings of both whales and dolphins they had while down on the beach. We really can relate – the thrill of seeing these magnificent creatures close-up in their natural habitat is something special.

Uvongo River Resort is a proud supporter of African Blessings (www.africanblessings.org) and this year, we are participating in the Season for Seniors drive, which is focused on providing a gift and a Christmas meal to destitute and alone senior citizens in December.

We would like to remind our valued Shareholders to kindly check and sign off on inventories upon arrival at your home-away-from-home unit. An inventory list is available in your unit; any discrepancies must please be reported at Reception.
