Here we sit, on the viewing deck which overlooks the nature reserve, in disbelief that the year 2021 is already behind us. We have thoroughly enjoyed the various scenes which have unfolded before our eyes at this spot over the past year; the changing seasons indicated by the golden earthy tones returning to verdant green and the numerous wildlife who have lazily passed by (now with youngsters at their sides). Not to mention the plentiful holiday memories which have

been enjoyed around the boma fire or at a bring and braai – we smile at the thought of families and friends gathering for such well-deserved leisure time at their chosen home-away-from-home. The Monateng Team has cherished every minute spent with you, our valued Shareholders, and while we are bustling with excitement for the New Year to begin, we would first like to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful goings-on at Monateng…

Monateng’s favourite rescue, Jakes the Giraffe, continues to be adored by doting guests. Jakes joins the Monateng Team in welcoming guests at the Main Lodge area and eagerly peers over the fence to say “hi!”
Did you know? Giraffes are all unique; their coat patterns are each different – just like a human’s fingerprints.

We’re elated to announce that the Hippopotamus family at the Lodge has grown! The new-born can sometimes be spotted playing in the dam on our Guided Game Drives.
Did you know? Hippo calves weigh approximately 45kg at birth and can suckle underwater by closing their ears and nostrils. Book your game drive at Reception!

Our Game Rangers recently came across the herd of Buffalo cooling off in a pool of muddy water.
Did you know? Buffaloes are actually very strong swimmers. They have been known to swim across bodies of water in search of better grazing. In this instance however, they wallowed in the muddy waters to cool off and ward off insects.

Our hope is that you continue to cherish your home-away-from-home holiday destination at Monateng; that every time you visit is as enjoyable, and more so, than the last. With this mission in mind the Monateng Team is always on the lookout for areas requiring some tender love and care.

A walking bridge was constructed at the Main Lodge area for our guests.

The viewing deck overlooking the Nature Reserve was treated.

All Bush Unit living and dining areas have been rearranged to allow better flow.

All Units interiors have been repainted.

Select Bush Units and all Valley Units have had new carpeting installed.

All Valley Unit patio lights have been exchanged to a more eco- and efficient variety.

All Units have been fitted with new air-conditioning drainage pipes.

All Unit washing lines have been replaced.

All Unit patio ceilings have been repainted.

All outdoor games have received new turf.

The pool table baize was replaced.

The Games Room playhouse has been moved outdoors.

All Unit geysers have been moved from the roof to a Unit wall, allowing better access and fewer disturbances for guests.

The Noughts & Crosses game has been repainted.

The trampolines received new covers and springs for a full revamp.

Fruit trees and additional plants were planted in the gardens at the Main Entrance.

A new, expanded Laundry has been built to improve the efficiency of our Housekeeping efforts.

At Monateng Safari Lodge, holidays and special occasions are a real treat. Here is a look at how we celebrated with you, our valued Shareholders, and other special guests:

Father’s Day

What fun and laughter was shared on this special day spent celebrating all the Monateng dads! For Father’s Day guests were welcomed at Reception and received a hamper consisting of alcoholic treats and shooter recipes. Thereafter guests joined our Entertainment Team outside for a special round of mini-golf. As part of the competition, each dad could play a round with beer bottles. If they tapped the bottle of beer with the golf ball, they could keep it!

Women’s Day

“There is no force more powerful than a woman determined to rise.” – W.E.B Dubois. To celebrate all the special women in our lives, the Team went around to each Chalet and presented our lovely ladies with a small souvenir: a succulent. Just as the succulent is tough and strong, so too are the women in our lives. Everyone greatly appreciated their little gifts.

Heritage Day

On the 24th of September the Monateng Le Fera Team welcomed guests to our famous bring and braai at the boma overlooking the Nature Reserve. Guests supplied their own meat and Le Fera catered for the accompaniments. The evening was lovely and it was a fantastic way to celebrate the diversity of South Africa as the sun set on another glorious day in the bushveld!

The Le Fera Monateng Team would like to take a moment to introduce you, our valued Shareholders, to our wonderful new Team members! If you haven’t had the chance to meet them yet, we hope you will soon.

Given Lubisi joined the Le Fera family back in June of this year and is our Team’s Administrator. He finished his National Diploma in Tourism Management saying, “I completed this course, because of the love I have of working and socialising with people. Tourism is interesting, not only as a way to boost economic growth but to promote a suitable environment for all, as well.” Given’s favourite quote is: “A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”

Wandile Ngomane jumped aboard as our Commercial Manager in September of 2021. You’ll find him hard-at-work in the Restaurant; planning delicious meals or fun holiday entertainment for the whole family. Wandile believes his calling was to work with people and communications is his passion, hence why he completed his National Diploma in Tourist Communication. His favourite quote is: “A little thought and a little kindness are often worth more than a great deal of money.”

The Le Fera Team hopes you will be as delighted, with our new Take-Away Menu and “Over The Top” Milkshakes, as we are! Collect your moreish meals to be enjoyed in the comfort of your Chalet or while taking in the view at the viewing deck. Our delectable milkshakes pair great with a juicy burger!

In Closing...

As is evident by the memories we’ve collected in these pages, 2021 has been a fantastic year indeed – filled with light, laughter and love. The time has now come to enjoy the Festive Season with loved ones, and soon after that, to step hand-in-hand into the New Year: 2022. The Monateng Team would like to take a moment now to thank you for your ongoing support.

It warms our hearts to know that Monateng is your preferred holiday destination, and we hope it will remain your home-away-from-home for many years to come.
